Our Behavior Management Program in Hampton
Dr. Coury has designed a behavior management program that helps to strengthen
memory, soothe away aggressive behavior, and ease the symptoms of Alzheimer's
and dementia. It was created after observing techniques used by other
care facilities that failed, and honing a new system that has helped many
find relief.
The behavior management program's techniques involve:
- Treating unmet needs to help with agitation and aggression
- Discovering if behavior changes are the result of a physical illness
- Always using positive body language and communication to ease paranoia,
anxiety, and confusion
- Gently redirecting attention to avoid frustration
- Care in an unrestricted and safe environment
- Finding the right balance of daily activity
- Using music for therapy and recreation
- Limiting the use of tranquilizers, which can have a detrimental effect
on patients
Our Memory Care Methods
Families come to Mount Carmel Assisted Living for help with managing the
life of their loved ones. With the participation of our house physician
or the resident's physician of choice, we take a holistic approach
by addressing other important medical issues that the resident may have
in addition to memory loss. We address conditions such as depression,
anxiety, paranoia, or other physical illnesses that cause agitation and
worsen the symptoms of Alzheimer's and dementia. To resolve these
issues, we work with the resident's doctors to fine tune the resident's
current medications and address other issues like diet, mobility and cognitive
stimulation through meal planning and mental and physical exercise.
